“I have been privileged to work with Winston Blissett since 2006 or thereabouts, and I could not wish to have found a more sympathetic and creative musician – a great guy and a helluva bass player!” – Mike Collins
Winston Blissett started out playing gospel music at the New Testament Church. His first breaks as a professional musician came along in the early 1980’s when he was signed to a contract with Virgin Records with a band called ‘Headline’ for a year, then formed a band with Mykaell Riley called ‘Bumble & The Beez’ and won a contract with EMI Records in 1981.
His work as a studio and touring musician kicked off in the mid-80’s and built up steadily from that point until his next big break came along in 1990, touring with Lisa Stansfield’s band.
Since that time, Winston has worked with many of the world’s leading Pop, Jazz, R&B, Gospel & Blues bands & artists, notably recording and touring with Massive Attack, Boy George and Tom Robinson. Other big ‘names’ he has recorded with include James Morrison, Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Cher, Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, Basement Jaxx, Mattafix, S Club 7, China Black, and Denis Bovell. He has also toured or gigged with Robert Palmer, Hamish Stewart, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Lorber and, in 2013, with Swing Out Sister,
In between recording sessions and touring, Winston gigs with sax player Derek Nash’s jazz-funk group “Protect The Beat” and also plays at functions and local venues – maintaining his connections with every type of audience – from the smallest and most intimate, to the largest and grandest!
